Turns

a path in a forest

I look around at where I stand
Wind at my back sun on my face
I contemplate the guiding hand
Of turns that brought me to this place

When starting out my path was set
So straight and true, or so it seemed
Until the first detour I met
The bridge was out that crossed the stream

I looked around to left, to right.
There had to be another way
A rough footpath came into sight
So down that trail did I assay

There, Oh what sights did I behold
Such things I never thought I’d see
To think I’d have missed joy untold
If the choice had been left to me

What seemed deterrents at the time
Whether planned or unintended
They blocked the purposed path of mine
Causing route to be amended

Sometimes I turned where I would not
Had things progressed as I had planned
But best experience that I got
Came to me in uncharted land

Reflecting, I dare not complain
When rocks or pitfalls block my way
That send me down another lane
But always to a brighter day

Though dangers and obstructions mar
The road ahead, I will not fear
The hand that brought me safe this far
I’ll trust to lead me on from here.
