Someday when you look back to see
The path I've laid that follows me
There'll be some spots along the way
Where for choices made, I've had to pay
Holes cut deep by failed ambition
When aspiration lacked fruition
Shadows, where at set of sun
Important tasks were left undone
No monuments along the way
My name may grace no holiday
Words of mine may n'er be quoted
Nor greatest sacrifices noted
Some may say, "Failure," with shaking head.
"All this trouble, then to end up dead!"
Still, when at last the path shall end
Remember this, at least, my friend
If earthly gains be big or small
These things will matter not at all
As long as those whom I hold dear
Remember once that I was here.
