Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time when kiddies were smaller,
Puddles were wider, and fences were taller.
I could climb to the top of the tallest trees,
As far as it was, that’s how far I could see.

It was much longer to the close of the day,
The end of the line was much farther away.
Could always make do with whatever I had
The Father of Invention was my comrade.

Live for today, there was no time to borrow.
Could not imagine the world of tomorrow.
I Danced in the sunshine, played in the rain.
A kiss or a lollipop eased every pain.

Life was so simple then, not complicated
With what, when, and how daily cares were abated.
Now constant concern for affairs of the day
Leaves no time for dancing and less time for play

I’m taller and smarter, much more mature.
Prospects and perspectives have all changed for sure.
But when I remember, for those days I pine
When life was so simple, once upon a time.
