Remember Who?

When a nation in conflict faced the formidable foe
Who was the soldier so willing to go?
Who was the one, though with fear in his heart,
Marched forward to battle for himself no regard?
For to him most important was duty to all
Though he knew he might soon before enemy fall.
Who was the one for freedom's justification
Paid ultimate price for love of this nation?
Who then was returned draped in red, white, and blue?
Who was the soldier? Who? Tell me who?

Though we should forget, he's remembered because
Someone distinctly knows still who he was
A son, oh so dear to a fond mother's heart
A brother ready always to bolster your part
A lover whose touch caused a heart to beat fast
A daddy whose strong hand a child reached to clasp
A best friend who shared all the good times and bad
A neighbor who helped with any need that you had
A comrade who stood by you facing the foe
Or a fellow who personally you did not know
But the soldier was one who bought freedom for you.
Who was the soldier? Oh, remember who!
