Oh, the things we take for granted
All the things we think will last
We so thoughtlessly enjoy them
Noting only when they're past.
The sun's light it goes unnoticed
'Til the evening it goes down,
And the darkness like an artist
Paints the frost across the ground.
Then how sweet and fond the memory
Of the warmth upon my face
When its light made it so easy
To see clearly, find my place.
Life is never quite so precious
As the time when it is gone
My dear friend, I never missed you
'Til I found myself alone.
Oft we ignore our greatest treasures
Pushed aside by life's demands
As the peaceful bliss in Mama's arms
The great strength in Daddy's hands.
Mama's arms could give such comfort
Bring my distresses to an end.
So, into Mama's arms wide open
Often times my fears would send.
I always knew that what was broken
Daddy's hands would quickly mend.
When I fell down, by the same token,
Those hands helped me up again.
Though time make tremble steady hands
And death loosen love's embrace
Cherished memories of my childhood
Sands of time cannot erase-
For indelibly imprinted
In my memory there still stands
The tender warm embrace of Mama
And the strength in Daddy's hands.
